In case you missed it, Jimmy Carter, the former President, wrote a great Op-Ed in the NY Times concerning his recent trip to meet with Syrian and Hamas leaders, and lamenting on diplomacy efforts.
Which begs the question: Does Jimmy Carter read my DailyKos diary?
I know the likelihood of this is near-impossible, but it did catch me off-guard when I first saw the title of his Op-Ed. It's called "Pariah Diplomacy." I'm not sure exactly how often the word "Pariah" comes up in your daily lexicon, but personally I rarely hear it. It caught me off-guard because of my own diary posted April 19th, in which I compared US foreign policy to schoolyard politics. I called mine "Schoolyard Foreign Policy," since the US seemed to react to so-called enemy nations much the same way we, as children, reacted to the kids we didn't like for one reason or another.
Just for wearing hand-me-down clothes, or because their mother cut their hair, you and your friends deemed them to be a pariah.
I guess it's just strangely coincidental that Carter and I share not necessarily the same opinion of US diplomacy, but the idea that the US looks at these other countries as "pariahs."
Either that, or I would like to personally welcome former President Jimmy Carter to my DailyKos diary. Hehe...
